The National Child Protection and Adoption Authority (ANPDCA) had 7,815 cases of child abuse, neglect or exploitation reported in H1 2018; of these, 3,473 were registered in urban areas and 4,342 in rural communities.
As many as 597 cases of physical abuse, 923 cases of emotional abuse and 484 cases of sexual abuse were registered in the reporting period. To these add 149 cases of forced labor, 11 cases of sexual exploitation and 157 cases of criminal exploitation of children.
Between January - June 2018, the General Directorate for Social Assistance and Child Protection has ordered the placement of 1,414 children under foster care, and 77 children were urgently removed to foster care under court order.
The criminal prosecution of the offender was started in 563 cases, 125 of which were of physical abuse, 41 of emotional abuse, 266 of sexual abuse, 92 of neglect, 6 of sexual exploitation and 33 of criminal exploitation of children.
