The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) issued on Thursday a Code Yellow warning for severe cold, valid until Friday evening in four counties in the Moldavia region, as well as a nationwide advisory for freezing cold weather, mixed precipitation and wind intensification, in effect until the middle of next week.
According to the specialised forecast, between 20:00 on 15 January and 20:00 on 16 January, the counties of Suceava, Botosani, Iasi and Vaslui will experience extremely low temperatures and local frost, especially at night, when minimum temperatures will range between -13 and -8 degrees. Moreover, temperatures around -10 degrees will also persist during Friday.
Furthermore, between 20:00 on 15 January and 10:00 on 20 January, a warning for very cold weather, frost (particularly during nights and mornings), mixed precipitation and ice, and wind intensification will be in effect.
Thus, the night from Thursday to Friday (15-16 January) will be bitterly cold, with minimum temperatures between -13 and -8 degrees in northern and eastern Moldavia.
On Friday (16 January), the weather will become colder, especially in the southern and eastern regions, while in northern and eastern Moldavia there will be local frost, with temperatures around -10 degrees. On the night from Friday to Saturday (16-17 January), frost will affect Moldavia and most of Muntenia, Dobrogea, Transylvania and Maramures.
According to meteorologists, nights and mornings will remain frosty across most areas until Tuesday (20 January), with minimum temperatures generally ranging between -16 and -8 degrees, while in northern Moldavia, frost will persist during the day as well, with temperatures between -12 and -10 degrees.
Moreover, on the night from Thursday to Friday (15-16 January) and on Friday (16 January), there will be temporary precipitation: predominantly rain in Banat and Crisana, mixed locally in the mountains, in Transylvania, Moldavia and isolated areas in Maramures and Dobrogea, and predominantly snow in Oltenia and Muntenia, locally causing ice deposits. Winds will intensify temporarily in southern Banat and the south-eastern regions, with speeds generally between 40 and 50 km/h.
