'Colectiv' is not only a painful memory that we have a duty not to forget, but also a symbol of the need to increase the level of responsibility, empathy and solidarity in the entire society, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan said in a message on Thursday.
"It is ten years today since the tragedy in the Colectiv club, which deeply marked Romania, ending lives and changing destinies. Our thoughts go to the young people who lost their lives, to the survivors who went through trying moments and to all those who lost someone dear that night. 'Colectiv' is not only a painful memory that we have a duty not to forget, but also a symbol of the need to increase the level of responsibility, empathy and solidarity in the entire society", said Ilie Bolojan.
He added that the tragedy is a lesson about how important it is for the safety of citizens that the state makes correct laws and ensures their observance.
"It is proof that every institution must be prepared to intervene effectively in emergency situations. The response capacity of institutions is not just an administrative issue, but one that is directly related to protecting the lives and safety of citizens. Unfortunately, the recent tragedy in Rahova has reconfirmed these things," Bolojan added.
The Prime Minister pointed out that the legislative amendments regarding fire safety and the intervention actions made after the fire in the Colectiv club, the new procedures introduced in the medical system are insufficient.
"There are still many things to change in the way the Romanian state relates to citizens and society. It is vital that this path begins with regaining trust, a process that we must go through together, state and society. The involvement of civil society and people with expertise and credibility in this process is very important," Bolojan highlighted.
At the same time, he argues that a responsible political attitude is also very important.
"The solution is not to stand on the sidelines and throw stones for fear of polls, but to assume correct approaches and responses to real and serious problems. Making the political class and all those who work in the public service accountable is essential to avoid past mistakes and to strengthen respect for the law in everyday life," Bolojan added.
