The conference "George Enescu - Horizons in Continuous Discovery", featuring two highly regarded musicologists from Romania and Israel, Prof. Carmen Stoianov and Dr. Michael Damian, will take place on Friday at the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) in Tel Aviv.
The event will explore how Enescu's works have been received in different historical contexts and the ways in which they continue to inspire today. Presentations will be accompanied by musical excerpts from concerts, illustrating the ideas and examples discussed, providing the audience with both an analytical and auditory experience.
The conference is part of the "Enescu 70" series, commemorating seventy years since the passing of the great Romanian composer, according to a statement from ICR Tel Aviv sent to Agerpres on Wednesday.
A renowned musicologist and a disciple of Acad. Octavian Lazar Cosma, Prof. Stoianov also trained in composition under several distinguished masters. She has received awards from the Romanian Academy as well as the Union of Composers and Musicologists.
Dr. Michael Damian, born in Romania and based in Israel since 1983, has had his compositions performed in major musical centres across Europe, the USA, Israel, and Japan. His work has been recognised with prestigious awards, including the Prime Minister's Prize for Composers and the Mark Kopytman Award.
In addition to his research and lecturing activities, Dr. Damian has conducted leading ensembles and orchestras, including the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, Haifa Symphony Orchestra, and the Orchestre Symphonique d'Île-de-France.
