The Medieval Spaces of the Cotroceni National Museum will host for two months, starting next week, an exhibition by Elena Scutaru, featuring retrospective works, sequences and selections from the multiple stages of the artist's creation spanning more than 30 years.

The exhibition 'Elena Scutaru - Intervals/Fragmentations' will open on 3 March at 15:00.

According to a press release the Cotroceni National Museum sent to AGERPRES on Thursday, the exhibition is structured into several sections - early works 1995-2000, introspective figures 2000-2015, coloured drawings 2017-2022, studio sequence 2019-2022, object, assemblage 2015-2025 - offering a detailed insight into Elena Scutaru's art.

'My creation is a dialogue between diverse media and inner states. I made my debut under the sign of experimentation at Atelier 35, where I discovered the expressive force of raw materials - plants, jute, canvas - through which I sought to give shape to the unseen. My work then moved towards the figurative, towards exploring the face and the body through modelling in plaster, bronze or resins, in an attempt to capture the fragility and strength of the human being. Today, my laboratory includes everything from sketches, graphic art and painting with schlagmetall inserts to installations made of natural fibres and found objects, each carrying a story of becoming,' Elena Scutaru said, as quoted in the press release.

The exhibition, which opens the series of cultural events proposed by the museum this year, can be visited from 4 March to 3 May, Tuesday to Friday, as part of the exhibition tour, between 9:00 and 17:00, with the last entry at 16:00, or as part of the museum's general guided and unguided tours.

Visitors are required to present an original identity document, identity card or passport, at the entrance.

Elena Scutaru, born in 1964, studied sculpture at the Academy of Arts in Bucharest and is a lecturer at the National University of Arts in Bucharest, where she teaches at undergraduate and master's level.

She works in sculpture, painting, assemblage, installation, photography and drawing, with her recent interests focusing on installation, three-dimensional collage, sculpture, combined paintings and coloured drawing.

She has participated in numerous artistic residencies and solo, collective and group exhibitions both in Romania and abroad.
