The Covasna-Harghita European Study Centre (CESCH) in Sfantu Gheorghe is carrying forward the project titled "Recovery and Public Access to Documents on the History, Culture and Spirituality of Romanians in Covasna and Harghita Counties," launched in 2020 with the support of the Romanian Government's General Secretariat, through the Community Development Service.
The project aims to digitise, scan and publish documents, create digital inventories, and promote them in academic research.
It includes, among other initiatives, the digitisation and scanning of the archive of the Ecclesiastical Documentation Centre Metropolitan Nicolae Colan in Sfantu Gheorghe, containing documents from the 17th to 19th centuries, and their inclusion on the online platform Eurocarpatica.ro, ensuring easy access for all interested parties.
"By digitising the records and archives, we ensure effective promotion of sources on the history, culture and spirituality of Romanians in south-east Transylvania and on interethnic coexistence in the area, better dissemination of information, and enhanced national and international recognition of this region's contribution to Romania's cultural heritage," reads a press release sent to AGERPRES.
According to the cited source, the project will strengthen CESCH's capacity to 'preserve, process, conserve, research and scientifically valorise the material and documentary evidence attesting to the presence and continuity of the Romanian population in south-east Transylvania, as well as Orthodox spirituality in the communities within the Covasna and Harghita Diocese."
