Coordinator of Romania's national COVID-19 vaccination campaign Valeriu Gheorghita announced on Thursday that the COVID-19 adult immunisation coverage in the country was standing at 50.5%.

Regarding the developments in the campaign that started on December 27, 2020, there are over 8,091,000 people in Romania who have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, which means coverage of 50.5%, while vaccination with at least one dose in the general public is approximately 42%.

He pointed out that the highest immunisation coverage is in the 50-59 age group, at almost 58%, while in the 40 to 79 age group the average vaccination rate is 53.6%, Agerpres.ro informs.

"We are still left with an inadequate vaccination rate for people over the age of 80 - it is 30.8% - and for the young age groups, 12-15 years, currently at 11.3%," said Gheorghita.

He added that so far, more than 2,450,000 people have received the booster dose, which is about 54% of those eligible more than four months after the first vaccination schedule.

Gheorghita mentioned that in the 5-11 age group, approximately 7,300 children received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at 341 vaccination offices.

He added that approximately 21.5% of the counties have a vaccination coverage of over 50%, with Bucharest City at over 67%; 57% of the counties have a current vaccination coverage of between 40 and 50% and about 21% of counties have a vaccination rate of between 30 and 40%.

The coordinator of the vaccination campaign said that Romania has received 31,800,000 doses of vaccine and over 16,568,000 doses were administered, with a stockpile currently standing at 7,200,000 doses.

Romania, he said, has received 330,000 pediatric vaccines and has yet to receive a batch of approximately 216,000 doses, which has been postponed for the time being in order to avoid expired due dates.

"Deliveries from Astra Zeneca and Johnson are suspended for the time being," he added.

Gheorghita also said that the National Electronic Vaccination Register will be optimised form Monday, so that people without documents can also be registered.
