The 10th Police Station has opened a criminal case for assault or other acts of violence against a supporter of Calin Georgescu who allegedly assaulted two cameramen in front of the DIICOT headquarters, where Georgescu's father-in-law had arrived on Monday for questioning, according to judicial sources.
"On October 5, 2026, the Bucharest Police were notified that two media representatives had allegedly been assaulted by a man in front of a public institution in Sector 3. Preliminary checks confirmed the report, revealing that the victims had been intentionally struck with a metal object," the Press Office of the Bucharest General Police Directorate (DGPMB) reported, agerpres reports.
Police officers identified the person suspected of committing the acts as a 50-year-old man.
The police stated that the man was brought to the 10th Police Section by a gendarmerie squad for questioning in order to precisely establish the circumstances under which the incident occurred.
The 10th Police Station is continuing the investigation; the competent prosecutor's office will be notified to establish the facts and take the necessary legal measures.
"The Bucharest Police strongly condemn any form of aggression or violent behavior directed at journalists. Press freedom and the safety of journalists must be respected, and any act of violence is treated firmly and investigated promptly by police officers," the DGPMB stated.
