Double world swimming champion David Popovici is donating his birthday to a charity and aims to collect donations worth 45,000 euros, money that will be used by the Hope and Homes for Children Foundation to purchase an apartment for five brothers, all gifted musicians, according to a press release issued Monday by AGERPRES.

"David Popovici chooses this year to donate his birthday so that 5 musician brothers, all achievers, can have a stable home, where dreams can come true. So that deprivation doesn't spoil their chance to excel, David is calling for donations on hhc.galantom.ro/p/david for Andrei, Matei, Bogdan, David, Teodor and their mother. At the end of the campaign (4 - 30 September 2023), one of the donors will win, by drawing lots, a meeting with our champion. In order for the 5 brothers to be able to follow their passion without the uncertainty of tomorrow, it is necessary to raise 45,000 euros. The Hope and Homes for Children initiative, whose Ambassador is David Popovici, aims to give them the peace of mind of a home of their own and the chance to have their own path to the world of music," the press release mentions, agerpres reports.

"My birthday is coming up, I turn 19 [September 15, editor's note]. And I can't help but think about how much I've achieved, how much I've learned from my work and my journey so far, but especially that always, always, next to me there have been two parents who were able to give me everything I needed to deliver excellence. Because, without support, a child cannot excel, no matter how much they want to. For all the resilience, the passion for music and the strength of these boys, which not many of us were capable of, as little kids - I choose to believe that we can help them, together. We need to raise 45,000 euros for a home of their own to become their place of stability, forever," said the swimmer.

The five young musicians have so far won over 100 medals in the competitions in which they have participated. Andrei plays the violin and graduated from the Conservatory, Matei and Bogdan are studying piano and are in their second year at the Conservatory, and Teodor and David are in the 12th grade of classical singing and guitar, both preparing for the same university.

Last year, David Popovici's champion gear garnered, in less than a month, on the Galantom platform, donations worth over 40,000 euros. The money then went to Florentina Filipovici, former world rowing vice-champion in June, who was struggling with a serious illness and had nowhere to live with her three children aged between 4 and 8.
