Romanian swimmer David Popovici qualified with the fastest time from the heats - 47.38 seconds - for the final of the men's 100-metre freestyle on Saturday, at the European Under-23 Swimming Championships in amorín, Slovakia.
The second-fastest time, nearly a second behind, was recorded by Croatian swimmer Jere Hribar 48.18 seconds.
Another Romanian, Patrick-Sebastian Dinu, also qualified for the final with the seventh-best time, 49.01 seconds.
Mihai Gergely placed 31st in the heats with 50.62 seconds, while Stefan Cozma finished 46th with 52.04 seconds.
Romania also has two athletes in the final of the 50-metre butterfly: Denis-Laurean Popescu and Vlad-Stefan Mihalache. The fastest time in the heats was achieved by Ukraine's Vladyslav Bukhov with 23.32 seconds, followed by Popescu with 23.41 seconds, Portugal's Diogo Ribeiro with 23.47 seconds, and Mihalache in fourth place with 23.69 seconds.
Cristian Lapadat ranked 38th in the heats with a time of 24.80 seconds.
Romania also qualified for the final of the mixed 4x100-metre freestyle relay. The team - Mihai Gergely, Alexandru Constantinescu, Ioana-Maria Stirbu, and Maysa Ratiu - placed eighth in the heats, clocking 3 minutes 34.97 seconds.
In the men's 100-metre backstroke, Alexandru Constantinescu had the 17th-best time in the heats - 55.85 seconds.
In the women's 100-metre freestyle, Maysa Ratiu finished 21st in the heats with 56.99 seconds, and Ioana-Maria Stirbu came 26th with 57.84 seconds.
Vlad-Stefan Stancu placed 31st in the heats of the 200-metre individual medley, with a time of 2 minutes 06.72 seconds.
On Thursday, David Popovici won the gold medal in the 200-metre freestyle, and Denis-Laurean Popescu secured gold in the 100-metre butterfly. On Friday, David Popovici won the bronze medal in the 50-metre freestyle.
Romania is competing with a squad of 13 athletes at the European Under-23 Swimming Championships in amorín, Slovakia, from 26 to 29 June.
