The Romanian swimmer David Popovici won the gold medal in the 100-meter freestyle, on Wednesday evening, at the European Swimming Championships in Belgrade, with a time of 46 sec 88/100.
UPDATE
Popovici finished just two hundredths away from the European record, which he has held since 2022, in Rome. The world record (46 sec 80/100) has been held since February by the Chinese Zhanle Pan.
The Romanian was followed in the ranking by the Hungarian Nandor Nemeth, 47 sec 49/100, and by the Serbian Andrej Barna, 47 sec 66/100.
At the 2022 European Championships in Rome, Romania won two gold medals, both through David Popovici in the 100 m and 200 m freestyle.
