Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan declares that a decision will be made next week regarding the minimum salary level for 2026 and that an emergency ordinance will be adopted in this regard.

The prime minister told B1Tv that his personal option would be to maintain the minimum salary at this year's level.

Ilie Bolojan's clarifications come after a meeting of the National Tripartite Council for Social Dialogue was held on Wednesday, attended by representatives of unions, the Government and employers' associations.

"There are two working hypotheses. To increase the minimum salary - one hypothesis. The second hypothesis - to keep the salary for next year the same as we have this year, in the context in which public sector salaries have been capped. None of the solutions has only advantages and disadvantages. Each has certain positive and some negative effects", said the prime minister.

In this regard, he argued that if an employee has a minimum salary, any price increase directly affects them, and the increase in income would provide them with protection. On the other hand, representatives of employers' associations declared that entire sectors are "at the limit" of profitability, and in the context of economic contraction, the increase in the minimum salary risks generating a reduction in the number of jobs.

"The conclusion I have drawn from this discussion is that between the two divergent positions, one supported by the unions, the other by the employers - some backing the increase, others to remain the same - we will make a decision next week, so that before the holidays we have an ordinance that clarifies which rule will apply next year. Personally, given the economic constraints we have, with all the arguments on one side or the other, my personal option is to support maintaining the minimum salary at this year's level, because in this way we avoid some complications that are given both by the salary caps in the public sector, but also by the economic realities in certain sectors", Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan also mentioned.

Establishing the level of the minimum gross basic salary guaranteed for next year was the main topic of the consultations held on Wednesday, at the Victoria Palace, between representatives of the Government and those of the social partners, within the meeting of the National Tripartite Council for Social Dialogue.
