Russian forces attacked, on the night between Monday and Tuesday, the Ukrainian port infrastructure located on the Danube River, in a context in which four Romanian air police military aircraft were monitoring the national airspace, informs the Ministry of National Defence (MApN).

According to a press release sent by the MApN to AGERPRES on Tuesday, following the signals detected by the surveillance systems, two F-16 aircraft deployed at Fetesti Air Base were taken into the air, according to air police procedures, at 12:17 am, respectively two German Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft deployed at Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base, at 2:45 am for research and ensuring the security of the national airspace.

"The mission commanders had approval to engage air targets if they entered national airspace and endangered the security of Romanian citizens," the Ministry informed, adding that no unauthorised intrusions into Romanian airspace were detected and no remains of aerial vehicles were identified on national territory.

"The Ministry of National Defence firmly condemns the attacks of the Russian Federation on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, actions that represent a serious violation of international law and a threat to regional security. Romania remains in permanent contact with NATO and European Union allies and maintains a high level of vigilance and reaction," the press release reads.
