DefMin Mosteanu talks with Ukrainian deputy defense minister on expanding cooperation in defense industry

The Minister of National Defense, Ionut Mosteanu, met on Monday, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Defense, with the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Sergiy Boyev, in which they discussed, among other things, the expansion of collaboration in the field of the defense industry.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Defense sent to Agerpres, the visit of the Ukrainian official to Romania was part of the political-military dialogue between the two states and had as its main objective the discussion of the possibilities of developing technical-military cooperation, as well as the consolidation of the bilateral partnership in the field of defense.

"During the meeting, the delegations reviewed the key points of Romania's multidimensional support to Ukraine and discussed expanding cooperation in the defense industry, joint military research and innovation projects, as well as training and interoperability programs between the armed forces of the two countries. Both sides stressed the importance of expertise and technology transfer, with an emphasis on developing military equipment production capacities. The essential role of regional cooperation in the current security context on the eastern flank of NATO and the European Union was also highlighted," the release said.

During the discussions, the officials agreed to intensify contacts at the technical and institutional level, as well as to organize regular bilateral meetings dedicated to the defense industry, aimed at stimulating joint research and development projects and partnerships between companies in the field from Romania and Ukraine, the cited source states.

"Romania remains committed to supporting the consolidation of Ukraine's defense capabilities, through industrial development communities. In this regard, we are exploring together the opportunities offered by European funding programs, including the SAFE initiative, which can significantly contribute to increasing regional production capacity and modernizing the defense industry," Minister Mosteanu was quoted as saying in the release.

The visit of the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine confirmed the joint commitment of the two states to strengthen cooperation in the field of defense and to contribute to regional security and stability through modern, sustainable means compatible with Euro-Atlantic standards, the Ministry of Defense also said.
