Romania's Defence Minister Mihnea Motoc, on Friday met Chairman of the South-Eastern Europe Defence Ministerial - Coordination Committee (SEDM-CC) Huseyin Muftuodlu. In a press statement released on Friday, the National Defence Ministry (MApN) says the meeting was held on the sidelines of the 2016 edition of the "South-Eastern Europe Simulation (SEESIM)" exercise hosted by Romania, October 10-14, which closing ceremony Muftuodlu attended.
"Discussed at the meeting were the importance of SEDM as a political and military dialogue platform among the South-Eastern Europe's countries as well as the latest developments in the cooperation programme unfolded under the aegis of SEDM. Also addressed were the main items on the agenda of the next SEDM meeting scheduled for October 17-18 in Rome," reads the statement. At the meeting, Motoc underscored Romania's support for a strategic revision of SEDM and the consolidation of the initiative as the main regional cooperation format in the defence area. At the same time, Romania's active participation in all the SEDM projects underway was highlighted, along with their further development and adjustment to match the dynamics in the regional security environment.
Also highlighted were the advantages of the South-Eastern Europe Brigade (SEEBRIG) taking part in NATO's exercises and initiatives in the region in order to improve interoperability with the NATO forces, including SEEBRIG's potential affiliation with the Multinational Division Southeast headquarters in Romania.
