Several measures have been ordered at the level of the Department for Emergency Situations (DSU) in the context of Code Orange weather warnings for blizzard conditions and heavy snowfall announced for the coming period.
According to the Department for Emergency Situations, a number of measures will be taken at central, county and local level, with priority given to protecting vulnerable persons.
At county and local level, the County Committees for Emergency Situations will be convened in the counties under Code Orange warning, operational groups at the level of the inspectorates for emergency situations will be activated, the preventive closure of road sections at major risk of blockage will be analysed and the population in affected areas will be informed through RO-ALERT messages where the situation requires it.
At central level, the operational group within the Ministry of Internal Affairs will be activated and the redeployment of forces and resources through the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations will be established and carried out to the counties under Code Orange warning, depending on operational developments.
Measures to protect vulnerable persons include monitoring the situation of dialysis patients and pregnant women close to term and, if necessary, ordering preventive relocation or evacuation in advance to avoid critical situations generated by road blockages.
In the medical and transport sectors, interclinical transfers will be limited to strictly urgent cases and cooperation will be ensured between ambulance services, road administrators and inspectorates for emergency situations in order to facilitate safe access for medical crews.
All these actions are being carried out in cooperation with the structures of the Ministry of Internal Affairs - the Romanian Police, the Romanian Gendarmerie and the Border Police - with institutions coordinated by the Department for Emergency Situations, namely the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations and the General Aviation Inspectorate, with structures under operational coordination such as the ambulance services, emergency reception units and public mountain rescue services, as well as with the Ministry of Transport, the National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration and local public administration authorities, the Department for Emergency Situations wrote on its Facebook page on Tuesday.
The priority remains the protection of life and the prevention of situations in which intervention becomes difficult due to blockages caused by blizzard conditions, the department pointed out.
