The Alliance for Romanians' Union (AUR) MPs submitted a simple motion on Wednesday in the plenary sitting against the Justice Minister, deputy Dan Tanasa announced.
The motion is called "Justice for Romania - justice must truly become a public service working for the citizens."
The simple motion is initiated by at least 50 deputies, according to the attached list of signatures, the AUR deputy mentioned.
"The Justice Minister, as Romanians see him, leads a ministry and an area which delivers injustice rather than justice. We can accuse him of a chronic lack of reaction and initiative since taking office, which undermines both the proper functioning of the justice system and public trust in justice. And we all see these things. From the severe understaffing of magistrates in courts to the thicket of laws that makes life difficult for judges, lawyers and litigants alike, all these problems are general systemic issues. And someone, as is normal, in every ministry must be held politically accountable," Mihai-Adrian Enache, leader of the AUR parliamentary group told an AUR press conference held on Wednesday.
According to an AUR release, "the motion denounces the major managerial failure in ensuring an efficient, predictable and fair act of justice."
"The excessive duration of trials, systemic bottlenecks, prolonged protests by magistrates and the lack of any firm response from the minister have directly affected citizens' fundamental rights. Litigants, crime victims and the business environment have been left without real protection, while the promises in the government programme remain dead letter. The absence of genuine reforms, a coherent strategy and political accountability has deepened the gap between the citizens and the judicial system," the release mentioned.
