Thousands of people came, on Friday evening, to the area of the Palas residential complex to see the opening ceremony of the Digital Throne Festival, during which the 15th edition of the World Esports Championship will be organized from Saturday.
In the opening of the Digital Throne Festival #IASI2023, there was a super show with drones, followed by a video mapping show and special projections through which the digital heroes came to life at the Palace of Culture in northeastern Iasi.
The president of the International Esports Federation, Vlad Marinescu, declared that this World Esports Championship is the biggest event in the field of electronic sports, in the competition organized in Iasi, professional players from several continents will compete.
"111 countries are present. It is the biggest event ever organized in the history of Romania. There are more than 600 professional esports players who compete in competitions organized for six games that are on phone, computer and console. It means that the whole esports community in the world will be watching Iasi these days. As with any large-scale event, there are still some obstacles in terms of organization, but they are solved immediately. I feel very much the support of the people of Iasi and the City Hall. Everyone here works passionately so that tomorrow morning, when the competition starts, everything will be normal, so that we can organize the most beautiful event. With the help of the Iasi City Hall, the sponsors and the people of Iasi, we will have an event that will amaze the world in the coming days," Vlad Marinescu said.
The Digital Throne Festival will stretch 10 days. Thus, in addition to the World Esports Championship, there will be artists and actors known from movies and pop culture at the Comic Con event, dedicated to fans of comics, animations, video games and TV series. Among them will be actors from Stranger Things and La Casa de Papel.
In addition to the main stages, where concerts and esports competitions will take place, the public will be able to take part in conferences and talks with experts from the esports industry and will have the opportunity to get to know professional esports players up close.
The closing ceremony of the World Esports Championship will take place between September 1-3. On this occasion, some of the most famous electronic music DJs in the world will mix: Armin van Buuren and Tujamo. They will take the stage together with renowned international artists such as Lost Frequencies, JP Cooper and Tom Odell, but also with Romanian artists B.U.G. Mafia, Delia, Carla's Dreams, Alternosfera, Subcarpathi, Spike, The Motans, Connect-R & Johny Romano, Deliric x Silent Strike w. Muse Quartet & CTC, as well as the Moldova Philharmonic of Iasi.
