Domestic primary energy production increases 3.7% in H1, electricity consumption in economy drops 7.6%

Domestic primary energy production increased 3.7% in the first six months of the year, compared to the same period in 2022, while imports fell 6.2%, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) reported on Monday, told Agerpres.

According to INS data, domestic production totaled 9.147 million toe, up 329,800 toe (+3.7%) compared to the period 1 January - 30 June 2022, while imports totaled 7.072 million toe, down 468,800 toe (-6.2%).

In the period 1 January - 30 June 2023, primary energy resources decreased 0.8% and electricity resources increased 3.8% compared to the same period last year. The main primary energy resources totalled 16.220 million tonnes of oil equivalent (toe), down 139,000 toe from the same period last year.

During this period, electricity resources were 33.511 billion kWh, up 1.217 billion kWh from the corresponding period of 2022. Production from thermal power stations was 8.382 billion kWh, down 2.205 billion kWh (-20.8%).

Production from hydro power plants was 11.361 billion kWh, up 3.662 billion kWh (+47.6%), and that from nuclear power plants stood at 5.344 billion kWh, up 150.1 million kWh (+2.9%).

Production from wind power plants in the first six months was 3.995 billion kWh, down 13.9 million kWh from the same period of the previous year, and solar energy produced in photovoltaic installations in this period was 817.2 million kWh, down 137.1 million kWh from the corresponding period of 2022.

Final electricity consumption in this period accounted for 24.366 billion kWh, 7.6% lower than in the corresponding period of 2022, while final electricity consumption in the economy decreased 5.7%; public lighting decreased 24.7% and population consumption dropped 12.6%.

Electricity exports were 6.433 billion kWh, up 3.354 billion kWh. Own technological consumption in networks and stations was 2.711 billion kWh, down 130.4 million kWh.
