Deputy Dumitru Coarna claimed on Monday, in the plenum of the Chamber of Deputies, that the area Oltenita - Ulmeni, of Calarasi County, holds the biggest ecological bomb in southeastern Europe, 300,000 tons of waste from Bucharest being stored there.
He spoke during the debate of the simple motion filed by the Save Romania Union (USR), submitted against Minister Tanczos Barna, about the matter, which he deemed "extremely complicated".
"I want to bring to the forefront an extremely complicated issue, which is taking place in the Oltenita - Ulmeni area of Calarasi County. It's the biggest ecological bomb in southeastern Europe. Since 2020, to today, over 300,000 tons of waste from Bucharest are stored in a protected area - Natura 2000, in the area of the river Danube. Personally I forwarded a lot of materials on the matter, but, unfortunately, tens of cars with waste from Bucharest still come daily to the area. Imagine that this ecological disaster is taking place with the full knowledge, or if you want to, the direct participation of representatives of the Romanian state," said the deputy, Agerpres.ro informs.
The Chamber of Deputies has rejected, on Monday, the simple motion filed by the Save Romania Union (USR) against Environment Minister Tanczos Barna.
There were 83 votes "in favour", 186 votes "against" and one abstention.
