"Dunarea de Jos" University of Galati (UGAL) has become a full member of the European university alliance RUN-EU (Regional University Network - European University), joining thus other prestigious universities from the European Union, the higher education institution informs on Thursday.
"'Dunarea de Jos' University of Galati officially informs that it has joined the European university alliance Regional University Network - European University (RUN-EU), with full membership (...). RUN-EU is an alliance of European universities dedicated to sustainable regional development, innovation and inter-institutional collaboration. UGAL joining this network represents a strategic moment in the development of the institution and confirms its commitment to developing education, research and innovation at European standards," said UGAL in a press release to AGEPRES.
Along with the "Dunarea de Jos" University of Galati, the Technical University of Liberec (Czech Republic) was also officially included, bringing the total number of partner higher education institutions to this network to ten.
The RUN-EU members are: Hame University of Applied Sciences - HAMK (Finland), Polytechnic University of Leiria (Portugal), Polytechnic Institute of Cavado and Ave - IPCA (Portugal), Technological University of the Shannon - TUS (Ireland), NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences (Netherlands), Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences - FHV (Austria), Howest University of Applied Sciences (Belgium), University of Burgos (Spain), Technical University of Liberec - TUL (Czech Republic) and "Dunarea de Jos" University of Galati - UGAL (Romania).
According to the same source, the accession process of "Dunarea de Jos" University to RUN-EU began in October 2024, when the alliance was in the process of expanding and analysing a large number of European regional universities. UGAL quickly went through the assessment and institutional dialogue stages, and in February 2025, during the Steering Strategy Group meeting (meeting of the rectors of the partner universities), it received the alliance's acceptance.
Thus, as of this week, the "Dunarea de Jos" University of Galati is officially a full member of the RUN-EU Alliance.
"Joining RUN-EU confirms the academic maturity of our university and positions our university in a strong European community, oriented towards innovation and collaboration. For students and teaching staff, this means extended access to mobility, joint study programmes and academic opportunities at European level," said the rector of the "Dunarea de Jos" University of Galati, Marian Barbu.
