Piranha 5 armoured fighting vehicles are an example of what real cooperation means between the Economy and the Defence, a symbol of successful collaboration between the state and the private sector, according to Minister of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism Radu Miruta.

"The Piranha 5 armoured fighting vehicles are an example of what real cooperation means between the Economy and the Defence. Today, together with my colleague, the Minister of Defence, Ionut Mosteanu, I visited the Bucharest Mechanical Plant, the place where the Piranha 5 armoured carriers take shape - the most modern carriers currently in service with the Romanian Army. It is extremely important that an Economy Minister and a Defence Minister sit at the same table and have concrete, direct discussions with both the people who build these vehicles and those who use them in the field. We spoke about the servicemen's feedback and how we can build new partnerships together to help grow Romania's defence industry," Minister Radu Miruta wrote on his Facebook page on Friday.

According to him, the project is carried out on a Romanian platform, through technology transfer, in partnership with General Dynamics and the contract has supported, continues to support and can further support the local industry - the hull is welded at the Mangalia Naval Shipyard and the turret is assembled exclusively in Romania.

He underscored that out of the 227 armoured vehicles ordered, the delivery is nearly complete, only the models with special features are in production: CBRN, MEDEVAC (for medical evacuation) and search/rescue vehicles.
