Education Minister Daniel David met on Tuesday with students to discuss the measures regarding the fiscal-budgetary crisis with an impact over the academic environment and students in particular.
According to a Education Ministry release sent to AGERPRES, on the occasion of the National Alliance of Student Organisations in Romania (ANOSR) Forum, organized in Timisoara, the minister discussed with the students about the effects of the measures adopted by the Government and about the ways in which they can be managed in the academic system.
The Education Minister underscored that the measures taken by the Government are needed in order to ensure the necessary funds for salaries and scholarships until the end of 2025 and in order to subsequently prepare the development and reforms in the area in 2026.
"No one wanted them and they would not have been taken in this form under normal conditions, and the fact that they are temporary shows the Romanian Government's openness to return when the fiscal-budgetary conditions allow it," David stated.
According to the release, he also highlighted some measures and steps aimed at mitigating the effects on students, such as the autonomy of universities to hire personnel using their own funds, coordinating with local authorities or making flexible the period for awarding scholarships.
"In order to also prepare the post-crisis moment and bring an optimist commitment in the area, starting from the issues raised by the students, the minister voiced openness to discuss the reforms proposed in the QX Report for higher education and research. In this context, it should be noted that despite the financial constraints, the budget allocated to students scholarships for the next academic year will be higher than that of 2022-2023. Later, Minister Daniel David answered the students' questions, and their representatives stated that, in the absence of changes to the crisis measures, they would continue the protests. Finally, the Minister of Education and Research expressed his openness to receive proposals regarding the most efficient implementation of the legal regulations assumed through the Government Programme and the Fiscal-Budgetary Law (L141/2025)," the release mentioned.
