Education Minister Daniel David stated that classes in schools will continue as normal on Tuesday, as it is a "moral duty" of teachers towards their students.
"Tomorrow (Tuesday - ed n) classes will be held normally. It is both a legal obligation of a teacher and a moral duty towards the students," Daniel David declared on Antena 3 CNN.
Asked if there will be teachers who will come to class but refuse to take the class, David replied that he does not believe there will be cases, but principals should monitor such situations.
"If, in theory, or we imagine that such a situation happens, it is a problem, it is a problem also in terms of the legal aspect of salary and it is also a moral problem. I do not believe that a Romanian teacher will do this, and the directors are the ones who must monitor such situations. (...) From my point of view, as minister, the school is running normally," said the Minister of Education.
Education trade unionists requested, on Monday, during a meeting with President Nicuşor Dan, the resignation of Education Minister Daniel David and the cancellation of the measures undertaken by the Government regarding the education system, announced the leader of the Federation of Education Trade Unions "Spiru Haret", Marius Nistor.
"We don't need promises, the president (Nicusor Dan - ed.n) took note of our requests, the first request being related to the resignation of the Minister of Education, Daniel David, and the second being related to the cancellation, the repeal of the measures that were assumed on Law 141. Regarding the first point, the president has not ruled out at the moment, and regarding the second point, the one related to the repeal of the measures that were assumed on Law 141, he proposed another meeting, in about two months at most, on which occasion it will be possible to come up with some exact figures related to the impact of the measures assumed by the Bolojan government. And, depending on these impacts, other decisions must be analyzed and made. This is what the president was able to convey to us", declared Marius Nistor, upon leaving Cotroceni Palace.
He stressed that the protest actions will continue until the two objectives are met, specifying that a general strike "is not ruled out".
Education unions picketed the Executive headquarters and organized a protest march to Cotroceni Palace.
