Senate President Mircea Abrudean stated that discussions regarding the organisation of elections in the Capital will take place within the governing coalition, noting that in his view the elections should be held fairly soon and that "ideally, the coalition would have a joint candidate."
"I believe the discussion will take place within the coalition, and it is important to reach a consensus on the date of the Bucharest elections. The elections should be held relatively quickly, as this concerns the country's capital. I don't think there is any need for a long delay before Bucharest residents can elect their mayor. Of course, it's a sensitive topic, as it involves either a joint or separate candidacy we'll see what decision is reached," Mircea Abrudean said on Monday when asked about the organisation of the mayoral election in Bucharest.
Regarding reports that the Social Democrats believe no progress has been made on setting the election date, Abrudean stated: "If there's no progress, I don't think it's useful to keep postponing a decision on organising the elections the date should be set by the Government."
"I will not comment on political matters. From my point of view, of course, the ideal solution would be a joint candidate of the coalition, but that will be decided within the coalition. It's quite difficult to align the positions and candidates of the three parties," the Senate president added when asked whether he would prefer a single or separate coalition candidate.
