Electoral authority, Swiss Foundation for Democracy discuss 2024 elections in Romania

Chairman of Romania's Standing Electoral Authority (AEP) Toni Grebla on Thursday discussed with leaders of the Swiss Democracy Foundation the 2024 elections in Romania, told Agerpres.

Grebla met adrian Schmid, chairman of the Swiss Democracy Foundation, and Bruno Kaufmann, director for international co-operation of the foundation, whom he introduced to the developments in preparation for four rounds of elections that will take place in 2024 in Romania and the efforts made by the AEP team for the rigorous preparation of the electoral process, according to a press statement of AEP.

Grebla mentioned AEP's desire for active promotion of exchanges of experience and good practices in the electoral field and the need for permanent consultation with the civil society in order to implement the best measures for the conduct of electoral processes.

"In their turn, the Swiss Democracy Foundation officials appreciated the openness of the AEP team to strengthening inter-institutional co-operation, including organising in 2014 in Bucharest the 12th edition of the Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy, the main international project developed by this organisation and which will be grounded in the concept of education for democracy," according to AEP.

Since 2018, the Swiss Democracy Foundation has annually organised in various cities of the world the Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy, where electoral experts and officials, representatives of the civil society, and the academe are invited to attend.
