The head of the Roadway and Traffic Surveillance Service for city districts 1, 2 and 6, Emanuel Vornicu, has been removed from office, the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police (IGPR) announced on Tuesday, with the shift chiefs working with the Traffic Brigade to also be facing a disciplinary investigation into the manner they instructed the traffic police officers when starting shift, and also the psychologist of this unit of the police will be facing such investigation into the manner in which she/he carried out its activity.
"Considering the preliminary conclusions of the verifications ordered by the Chief of the Romanian Police on the Bucharest Traffic Brigade, the following measures were taken: to remove from his office with the Traffic Brigade Chief Police Commissioner Vornicu Emanuel Rene, head of the Roadway and Traffic Surveillance Service for the city districts 1, 2 and 6, at least until this situation gets clarified; to notify the Prosecutor's Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice to initiate an analysis into the manner in which the criminal proceedings in relation to which the person in question is facing investigation were carried out and, depending on the results of such analysis, to take the applicable legal measures; to start a disciplinary investigations into the manner in which shift chiefs instructed the traffic police office when they started their shifts, as well as into the manner in which the psychologist of the police unit in question carried out his/her activity," specifies a release sent by IGPR to AGERPRES.
According to the IGPR, the police is currently trying to clarify the situation, with the result to be afterwards brought to the knowledge of the public.
The abovementioned decisions were triggered by the holding into custody of the traffic police officer charged with sexually assault against two children in an apartment block elevator in the Capital City.
