Energy Minister Bogdan Ivan discussed with US officials in Washington about strengthening Romania's energy security and conveyed that "Romania urgently needs more baseload energy."
"I am in Washington D.C., where I have been welcomed and treated as a decision-making partner. In the meetings with US Secretary of Energy Chirs Wright and US Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum, we discussed as equals about how real energy power is built: stable capacity, large projects, clear deadlines and execution without excuses. Romania is regarded as a strategic actor in the region and I put on the table exactly what matters: concrete solutions, not slogans. My message was firm: Romania urgently needs more baseload energy," Energy Minister Bogdan Ivan wrote on his Facebook page on Tuesday.
He underscored that over the past decade, Romania lost around 7,000 MW of production and the consequences can be seen in the economy's competitiveness and the pressure on prices.
"I do not sell illusions. If one wants strong industry and lower bills, one needs stable, controllable production: nuclear and natural gas. The recent storms in the US and Romania have confirmed the same simple truth: at peak moments, when consumption surges, the systems holds only with energy which does not depend on chance. That is why, we agreed to strengthen the bilateral cooperation on nuclear and gas and to place Romania at the center of the regional energy architecture, as a provider of stability, not as a spectator," Ivan pointed out.
In his view, Neptune Deep, Cernavoda and Doicesti are projects which will change Romania's status, being treated as strategic national objectives.
"We are part of the 'Friends of Nuclear' and support the expansion of European cooperation through a 'Friends of Gas' format. The direction is clear and I take responsibility for it: in order to be strong, you must produce more energy and, fundamentally, more baseload energy. Decisions are being made now, Neptune Deep, Cernavoda and Doicesti are the projects that will change Romania's status. I treat them as a strategic country objectives: energy security for the region and a foundation for the economy of the future. Because in the AI era, electricity turns directly into intelligence, computing power, investments and competitive advantage," the Energy Minister conveyed.
According to the quoted source, the partnership with the US is the key for technology, funding and speed of execution. "I am building this bridge with mutual respect and with measurable results. Romania has the chance to become a regional energy leader and I am working to make that a reality," Bogdan Ivan wrote on his social media page.
