The Minister of Environment, Waters and Forests, Diana Buzoianu, announced on Friday, during a working visit to the Pa?cani Hydropower Plant (AHE), on the Siret River, that the works on the hydroelectric power plant in that area have received environmental approval.

She stated that this objective is very important for the flood infrastructure and for ensuring water in the area, noting that prior to the environmental agreement, a thorough analysis was also necessary from the perspective of the authorities in the field, considering that the Ministry of Environment has a critical analysis role on all received documents.

"Following the analyses carried out, it became clear that this work has an essential role for the flood protection infrastructure, an essential role in providing the local community with the water, with the access to water they need. We have been looking at the implementation of the law for all these months, we have been looking to see that all the criteria that were in the law are met. We have also done this analysis with the representatives of Apele Române separately, because, yes, we consider that for such projects with a fairly high impact, the analyses must be done in a way that does not depend only on the constructor or only on the polluter. Today, the legislation in Romania stipulates that we have the constructor or the polluter who also does the impact study, is also the one who pays, by the way, and the one who selects the expert. We will have a discussion in the coalition about amending this legislation. I understand that there are several modifications that were requested by the party representatives, including regarding the future hydroelectric power plants. What we can say is that we are here today because just a few days away from having all the final documents, we have already given this agreement," stated Diana Buzoianu.

The Minister of the Environment emphasized that every time there are suspicions regarding compliance with the legislation from the perspective of the institution he leads, there will be firm questions.

"I want to mention to everyone that I have signed, will sign and am signing documents on a calendar that is related to the law, not necessarily to political parties or the hysteria of extremist movements," said Buzoianu.

She mentioned that a correct analysis is necessary for the other three hydroelectric power plants to be built.

In the early 1990s, work began on the Pascani Hydroelectric Power Plant in Iasi County, which was to use an accumulation dam to produce energy to cover the consumption needs of the Pascani municipality, but these stalled.
