This year, the Ministry of Environment will implement some of the most ambitious projects under the Environment Fund Administration (AFM), with over 500 local-level investments saved by being transferred from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) to AFM, Minister of Environment, Waters and Forests Diana Buzoianu said on Tuesday at the official opening of Green Energy Expo & Romenvirotec exhibition in Bucharest.

'We managed to save absolutely strategic environmental projects by transferring them from the PNRR to AFM, a move that saved more than 500 projects which already had works and construction sites under way. This is, in fact, our commitment to local-level projects and infrastructure, which are essential because without this infrastructure we cannot achieve all the ambitious national strategic objectives we have set ourselves,' Diana Buzoianu stated, agerpres reports.

In her view, public policies and legislation can also act as a catalyst for sustainable economic growth.

'Green Energy Expo&Romenvirotec has become both a partner and a benchmark event for how the private sector, public policies, civil society and experts should work together at the same table. The message I bring here today is that public policies and legislation can serve as a catalyst for sustainable economic growth. Environmental policies are - and you have demonstrated this through the commitment you have made over many years by investing directly in such technologies and in developing innovative principles within your own businesses - proof that profit can be generated in a sustainable way, in a manner that ensures future generations will also benefit from the resources each of us has enjoyed in our lifetime,' the Minister said.

Buzoianu told exhibition participants that the Ministry she leads is open to collaboration, highlighting that an internal digitalisation process has taken place in approval procedures, making processes faster and more efficient.

'Yes, we have already invested in digitalisation at the Ministry of Environment. We have a responsibility to make your procedures easier, faster and more efficient. We have shortened deadlines and already digitalised internal procedures, and we are set to digitalise external approval procedures as well. We are currently implementing several European-funded projects precisely for this purpose, because we understand that you can only be true partners alongside us if you have a solid basis for cooperation with us,' the Environment Minister said.

Green Energy Expo&Romenvirotec is the leading event dedicated to sustainable communities, taking place at Romexpo until March 5.

The event brings together companies operating in four fields - green energy, waste, water and smart city solutions - as well as central and local authorities, specialists, associations and representatives of the academic environment.

Officials from the Republic of Moldova also attended the official opening, with this year's edition marking cooperation between the two countries in the field of sustainable development.

The focus of the 2026 edition of the exhibition is on concrete solutions and their integration into communities - from large cities to small and medium-sized local administrations.
