The European Commission (EC)'s Executive Vice-President for Social Rights, Skills, Quality Jobs and Preparedness, Roxana Minzatu, will deliver a speech at the meeting of the leaders of the High-Level Steering Committee for Sustainable Development Goal No. 4, hosted by UNESCO, to be held in Paris, a press release from the European Commission Representation in Romania informs on Friday, informs Agerpres.
Roxana Minzatu's intervention will focus on the resilience of the education system within three pillars - the teaching profession, fundamental and lifelong learning and inclusive digital transformation. The meetings also aim to provide political direction to the process related to the global education agenda for the post-2030 period.
The presence of the EC's Executive Vice-President reaffirms the European Union's commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, which aim to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all, the statement said.
In addition, Minzatu will speak at the Transformation of Education Summit (TES) +4, which aims to take stock of achievements four years after the initial summit.
In the four years since the TES, the EU has continued to invest extensively. Through international partnerships and the Global Gateway strategy, the EU is investing around 6 billion in education between 2021 and 2027. 44% of EU funding for education is dedicated to fragile contexts, helping to protect learning where it is most threatened.
The EC's Executive Vice-President will also hold bilateral talks with UNESCO Director-General Dr Khaled El-Enany and the African Union Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Gaspard Banyankimbona.
"Education and training represent a strategic investment in resilience, in skills and in social cohesion that are the glue that binds our societies. Governments that protect education budgets are not generous, but rational and future-oriented. This also means investing in people, in our trainers and teachers," said Roxana Minzatu, quoted in the press release.
