Europol and the European Commission have expressed their intention to support the Romanian Border Police in managing the situation on the border with Ukraine, by sending officers specialized in combating illegal migration and human trafficking, in a first stage, informs the General Inspectorate of the Border police (IGPF).
According to the same source, on Tuesday, secretary of state with the Ministry of Interior police quaestor Bogdan Despescu and general inspector of the Romanian Border Police chief police commissioner Victor Stefan Ivascu had a meeting with an Europol delegation, at the IGPF headquarters.
"The purpose of the visit is to discuss the technical aspects related to the Europol Agency's intention to deploy "guest officers" in Romania, in a first stage, who are specialized in combating illegal migration and human trafficking, part of the European Centre for Combating Illegal Migration, in order to support the Border Police," a press release of the General Inspectorate of the Border Police (IGPF) sent to AGERPRES on Tursday.
The same source added that the main objective of the support offered by Europol is to strengthen the already efficient response of the Romanian authorities in respect to the crisis in Ukraine.
