Former head of the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) Laura Codruta Kovesi was appointed on Wednesday by Prosecutor General Augustin Lazar to serve as delegated prosecutor with the Supervision and Control Service of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice.
"Following the decision of the Prosecutors' Section of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) with regard to the continuation of Mrs. Laura Codruta Kovesi's activity after her removal from the position of Chief Prosecutor of the National Anticorruption Directorate, Mr. Prosecutor General Augustin Lazar, head of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice, delegated her through Order No. 1.412 of July 11 to the position of prosecutor with the Supervision and Control Service of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice, starting July 11," the General Prosecution Office said in a release.
The cited source said that Laura Codruta Kovesi will be responsible for the implementation with the Public Prosecution Office of the 2016 - 2020 National Anticorruption Strategy.
"Having in view the professional experience acquired so far, the prosecutor shall fulfill responsibilities related to the implementation, with the Public Prosecution Office, of the 2016 - 2020 National Anticorruption Strategy approved under Government Decision No. 583 of 2016, specifically updating anti-corruption strategies as well working out sectoral strategies for prosecution offices in accordance with the institution's strategic goals and priority areas as set forth in the 2016 - 2020 Strategy of the Public Prosecution Office," the release said.
According to a decision taken this Wednesday by the Prosecutors' Section of the Superior Council of Magistracy, Laura Codruta Kovesi was supposed to continue to work as a prosecutor at the Directorate for Investigating Organised Crime and Terrorism - Sibiu branch, where she was supposed to take over as of July 9.
President Klaus Iohannis signed on Monday the decree removing Laura Codruta Kovesi from the position of Chief Prosecutor of the National Anticorruption Directorate.
