Minister of Justice Alina Gorghiu has announced that the Extended Protection Order has come into force on Saturday, August 31, enabling thus all victims to benefit from protection, regardless of the form of violence, physical or psychological.
"Law 26/2004 on the Extended Protection Order enters into force today. All victims can benefit from protection, regardless of the form of violence, whether physical or psychological. Why do they call it expanded? Because until now the Protection Order only existed for domestic violence. We are now extending it by law to all situations and it's normal to go to the subway or on the street, without looking over your shoulder in fear, to enter the staircase of the block, without fear of the aggressor neighbor. Be without the fear of a fake friend stealing private photos from your phone to popularize them online. Not receive repeated phone calls at inappropriate hours," said Minister Alina Gorghiu in a post on Facebook.
She specified that the Ministry of Justice is launching the public information campaign "A life lived in fear is not a life", dedicated to informing the public about the new law and informing victims about the steps they can take to be safe.
"I encourage all victims to ask for help, to report abuses, regardless of form, regardless of the aggressor," Minister Gorghiu added.
According to a press release issued on Saturday by the Ministry of Justice, the Law on the extended protection order was initiated with the aim of protecting all victims, regardless of the relationship between them and the aggressor.
"Until this moment, the protection order and the provisional protection order only protected victims of domestic violence, but from now on, with the new normative act, the boundary of the family is extended and the protection offered becomes general. Another very important aspect: the new law covers all forms of physical and psychological violence. Among the forms of physical violence, there is any act of hitting or any act of violence causing physical suffering or any act of sexual violence," reads the Ministry of Justice press release.
