The polls have opened on Saturday, at 7:00 hrs, over 18,000,000 electors being expected at the polls until 21:00 hrs, today and tomorrow, to cast their vote regarding the revisal of the Constitution to include the definition of family as the freely consented marriage between a man and a woman.

Romanians are called to say 'Yes' or 'No' to the question: 'Do you agree with the law on the revision of the Romanian Constitution as adopted by Parliament?.'

According to Law No.3/2000, in order for the national referendum to be valid, it's necessary a voter turnout of at least 30 percent of the persons registered on the permanent electoral lists. The referendum will be validated if the validated choices represent at least 25 percent of those registered on the permanent electoral rolls.

The first report on turnout is scheduled for 11:30 for data collected up to 10:00.

On the days of the referendum, Saturday and Sunday, the Central Electoral Bureau will report data regarding turnout at 11:30 for the status at 10:00; at 14:30 for 13:00; at 17:30 for 16:00; at 20:30 for 19:00, and 22:30 - for 21:00.

The polling stations will close on Saturday at 21:00 hrs and resume on Sunday starting with 7:00 hrs.

On Saturday evening, after the conclusion of the first day of voting, the chairmen of the electoral bureaus of polling stations must conclude a report, in at least two copies, as per the Central Electoral Bureau's instructions. One copy will be displayed at the entry into the polling station and one will be kept by the chairman of the polling station, that copy will be presented at the conclusion of the second day of polls to the electoral bureau of each circumscription.

Furthermore, on Saturday evening, following the end of polling for the day, the chairman of the polling station must seal all entryways (doors and windows) of the polling station with paper strips that will bear his control stamp and signature, the same instructions by the Central Electoral Bureau reveal.
