Mircea Abrudean will remain President of the Senate following the PNL's transition to the opposition, the leader of the Liberal senators, Daniel Fenechiu, stated on Wednesday, noting that he was electednot appointedto this position, which no one else has laid claim to.
"Mr. Abrudean was not a political appointee; rather, he was chosen by the senators based on a political agreementan agreement that no one has repudiated. Has anyone called for Mr. Abrudean's resignation? Have you heard anyone suggest such a thing? Is there, at this moment, anyone in the Romanian Senate better suited than Mr. Abrudean to hold this position? I don't know; I haven't heard of anyone. So, as long as I haven't..." "Given that someone might lay claim to Abrudean's positionand I believe he has been one of the best Senate presidents, both in terms of his balanced approach and his commanding presenceI think it would be absurd for him to be replaced," stated Fenechiu at the Senate, when asked whether Mircea Abrudean would remain the president of this body, agerpres reports.
When asked whether he expects the PSD to, at some point, call for Abrudean's resignation from this position, Fenechiu replied that he does not.
"Honestly, I don't expect that, because I believe thatgiven the context of a minority government and the desire to collaborate with the National Liberal Partyone must take certain factors into account, including those related to institutional and organizational matters. On the other hand, you have seen Abrudean's work; he is a non-confrontational figure, someone who is always part of the solutiona person who engages with everyone and seeks solutions. So, personally, while I cannot know exactly what those in the PSD are thinking, based on the information I have, this is not an issue being raised," stated Daniel Fenechiu.
