The Ministry of Finance (MF) borrowed more than RON 1.922 billion from banks on Thursday, through two issues of government bonds, according to data published by the National Bank of Romania (BNR).

The ministry borrowed RON 815 million through a bond issue with a residual maturity of 45 months and an average yield of 6.3% per annum. The nominal value of the issue was RON 500 million and banks subscribed over RON 1.175 billion.

An additional auction is scheduled for Friday, through which the government wants to attract another RON 75 million at the yield set on Thursday for the bonds.

The MF also borrowed over 1.107 billion lei through a bond issue with a maturity of 121 months, at an average yield of 6.82% per annum. The nominal value of the issue was RON 600 million and banks subscribed RON 1.271 billion.

An additional auction is scheduled for Friday, through which the government wants to attract another RON 90 million at the yield set on Thursday.

The Ministry of Finance (MF) has planned to borrow RON 6 billion from commercial banks in July 2024, to which an additional 585 million lei may be added through additional non-competitive bidding sessions related to the bond auctions.

The total amount, RON 6.585 billion, is RON 365 million lower than the RON 6.95 billion programmed in June 2024 and will be destined to refunding public debt and funding the state budget deficit.
