FinMin Caciu: 'We need to stimulate economy fast for significant growth thirs year'

Ministerul Finanțelor Publice
Adrian Caciu

The measures envisaged in the "Support for Romania" package give us the prospect of remaining in an area of economic growth similar to the initial commitments, Finance Minister Adrian Caciu said on Wednesday, underscoring that, in order to have a high growth this year, we need to stimulate the construction sector and agriculture, first of all.

"The forecasts taken by the main international financial institutions have cut down the anticipation of economic growth for 2022 for Romania, but the government's actions in the "Support for Romania" package, focused on incentives for private investments in proportion of more than 60pct of the allocated budget envelope, 10.4 billion lei, respectively, out of 17.3 billion lei, give us the perspective of staying in an area of economic growth similar to the initial commitments, obviously provided that the stimuli arrive on time and targeted in the economy," explained Caciu in Parliament, at the "Government's Hour."

He added that, at the same time, increasing the collection of budget revenues and accessing European funds "have been, are and will be priorities of the current Government." Thus, in the first quarter of 2022, more revenues were collected by more than 21pct than in the same period last year, by 18.2 billion lei, respectively, from 85.8 billion lei in 2021 to 104 billion lei in 2022. The increase in the collection of taxes recorded an increase of 21.8pct, and that of the insurance contributions an increase of 9.2pct, Agerpres.ro informs.

The Minister also said that, according to the data for the first quarter, there will be a 67pct increase in the amounts coming from European funds, respectively 8.1 billion lei compared to 4.9 billion lei last year.
