Investments rose last year by around 16%, to 138 billion lei, and reached 7.2% of GDP, Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare said on Monday evening.

'Investments rose last year to 138 billion lei. Why is this important? Because investments increased and the deficit fell. In other words, investments can no longer be used as a justification for the deficit necessarily having to be large when investments rise. This time, investments went from 6.7% of GDP to 7.2% of GDP in 2025, to almost 138 billion lei. The increase is around 16%. And one more important thing happened: the composition of investments changed. We increased the contribution of European funds to investments from 58% to 78% and the contribution of national funds decreased slightly. This is a very important step,' Nazare said on Antena 3 private television broadcaster.

According to him, in the second half of last year, investments amounted to 87 billion lei and projects that had been unpaid since April began to move forward.

'We had money because we also had additional revenues. In these six months we had extra revenues. ANAF [National Tax Administration Agency] did its job. And not only did ANAF do its job, but the projects started moving because there were projects unpaid since April. (...) This was very important because we cannot restart the economy if investment payments are not made,' the Finance Minister said.

He also underlined that the payment mechanism for co-financing projects with European funds had been made more flexible.

'It helped a great deal, including for Transport, Development and Agriculture in December and they made significant payments, and the result of this entire effort is this figure of 7.2% of GDP,' Alexandru Nazare stressed.
