The first solar electricity transaction in Romania, carried out on the market dedicated to this product, launched by Romanian Commodity Exchange (BRM) on March 2, 2026, was concluded between two Romanian companies.
According to a press release from the Romanian Commodity Exchange, the transaction aims to deliver a total quantity of 1,920 MWh in September 2026, at a price of 275 lei/MWh, Agerpres informs.
"The completion of the first transaction marks a milestone for the Romanian electricity market and confirms the interest of participants in trading products adapted to the characteristics of production from photovoltaic sources. At the same time, it validates the usefulness of a new market mechanism, designed to meet the increasingly diversified needs of the energy sector," the press release reads.
The market for non-standardized electricity products - Profil Solar was developed by BRM in consultation with market participants, with the objective of providing a transparent, competitive and flexible framework for concluding electricity purchase and sale contracts with a delivery profile close to the production curve of photovoltaic plants.
Through this market, producers, suppliers, traders and consumers can trade products that more accurately reflect the hourly distribution of energy generated from solar sources, compared to classic products with constant delivery. This type of product contributes to a better correlation between the production and consumption profile, offering participants additional tools for portfolio optimization and risk management, the press release states.
The launch and development of the solar profile market are part of BRM's strategy to diversify the available products and consolidate its role as operator of the electricity markets in Romania, by developing trading mechanisms adapted to the evolution of the energy mix and the requirements of the participants.
BRM operates organized electricity and natural gas markets and manages, in the electricity sector, the Day-Ahead Market (PZU), the Intraday Market (PI), the Intraday Market with Payment (IDA-PZU), as well as the Energy Forward market, organized in a simple competitive, double competitive and cent/ral counterparty regime. By continuously developing these segments and by launching innovative products, such as those with a solar profile, BRM aims to offer participants a diversified range of instruments for trading electricity, both in the short term and in the medium and long term.
