Foreign Minister Odobescu to attend Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Luxembourg
Foreign Affairs Minister Luminita Odobescu will participate on Monday in the meeting of the heads of diplomacy of the European Union member states - Foreign Affairs Council (FAC), which will take place in Luxembourg.
According to a Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) press release sent to AGERPRES, the agenda of the meeting includes discussions on the situation in Israel and in the region, following the terrorist attacks by Hamas, Russia's aggression against Ukraine and Armenia-Azerbaijan relations.
High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell will also refer to his visit to China of October 12 to 14, the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue and the Sahel region, MAE mentions.
The discussion on the situation in Israel and the region will follow the extraordinary meeting of EU foreign ministers on October 10 and the European Council meeting on October 17. The discussions aim to continue EU coordination in line with the common position agreed by European leaders at the extraordinary meeting on October 17 on the Union's engagement in the Middle East.
Foreign Ministers will also address the impact of the situation in Israel on regional dynamics.
Discussions on Russia's aggression against Ukraine will take place as a follow-up to the informal FAC meeting in Kyiv on October 2 and in preparation for the European Council meeting of October 26-27. Ministers will focus on recent developments in Ukraine and the EU's long-term security commitments to the country.
The exchange of views on Armenia-Azerbaijan relations will aim at agreeing on a common EU approach on ways to support Armenia in the current context, while continuing to mediate and facilitate dialogue between the parties in order to support the peace process between the two countries.
On the sidelines of the FAC meeting, Odobescu will participate in the EU-Central Asia Ministerial Meeting, an event that will provide an opportunity to exchange views with counterparts from this region and send a strong signal of the Union's commitment to deepen cooperation with these countries, the press release also said.
