The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed on Saturday, on the 145th anniversary of Romania - U.S. diplomatic relations, the steadfast commitment to the continuation of the close cooperation between the two diplomatic departments and the readiness to further strengthen the Strategic Partnership between the two states, Agerpres reports.
"Today, June 14, 2025, we celebrate 145 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Romania and the United States of America. It is the starting point of a cooperation that has evolved on a political, military and security level, but also on the economic dimension, to the current level of Strategic Partnership. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs marks the close friendship between Romania and the United States of America and reiterates its firm commitment to continuing the close diplomatic cooperation, for the advancement of our common goals," the Ministry said in a release.
According to the cited source, its contribution to enhancing Euro-Atlantic security defines Romania as a "responsible and reliable partner", being "one of the pillars for deepening relations with the United States of America".
The Foreign Ministry also showed that the Romanian state continues to invest in developing cooperation with the U.S. in defense matters.
"We are cooperating closely to ensure the success of the NATO Summit in The Hague and the future of a strong Alliance. Fully aware of the current geopolitical and technological dynamics, which comes with new threats, but also with new opportunities, the Romanian state continues to invest in developing cooperation with the U.S. in defense matters. The American defense industry contributes decisively to the development of Romania's military capabilities, a fact proven by complex programs such as the acquisition of advanced systems such as the F-16 or PATRIOT and, in the future, the F-35 jets. At the same time, industrial partnerships such as the co-production of drones, artillery ammunition and tanks, are also developing," the release reads.
American companies also play an essential role in the development of Romania's energy sector, through projects that aim to strengthen energy resilience of our country and the region, by providing secure energy at competitive prices, the Foreign Affairs Ministry notes, highlighting in this regard the ongoing Small Modular Reactors project based on U.S. technology, doubling the electricity production of the Cernavoda Power Plant or capitalizing on the Black Sea natural gas resources.
"On the occasion of the 145th anniversary of diplomatic relations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirms its full confidence in the solidity and enormous potential of cooperation between Romania and the U.S., based on shared values and interests, expressing its full willingness to continue promoting the consolidation of the two states' Strategic Partnership, for the benefit of our citizens, security and common prosperity," the release states in conclusion.
