Foreign Affairs Minister Bogdan Aurescu on Monday had a telephone conversation with his Tunisian counterpart Othman Jerandi, on which occasion they discussed the regional situation and Tunisia's support for Ukraine.
The Romanian Minister appreciated Tunisia's support for Ukraine, in the context of the adoption, by a large majority, by this country, of the UN General Assembly Resolution of March 2, on Russia's military aggression against Ukraine, according to a press release of the MAE sent to AGERPRES.
He also presented Romanian side's assessment of the region's worrying security developments, while assuring his counterpart that Romania will continue to show solidarity with all its partners, including by providing protection and consular assistance to foreign nationals, Agerpres.ro informs.
Minister Othman Jerandi especially thanked Romania for its support in facilitating the safe evacuation of the Tunisian citizens from Ukraine and praised the operative manner and the substantial efforts made by the Romanian authorities to manage all the problems caused by the significant flow of people at the Romanian border, the context of the crisis in Ukraine.
Between February 24 and March 5, about 500 Tunisian citizens benefited from the support of the Romanian authorities on Romania's borders with Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova. The two ministers agreed to continue coordination between the relevant authorities in the two countries for the safe transit of the Tunisian citizens on Romanian territory and their safe return home as soon as possible.
