Romania is interested to develop economic cooperation with China, particularly in two highly potential fields - energy and the infrastructure, Foreign Affairs Minister Teodor Melescanu said on Wednesday.
"Together with minister [of Energy] Petcu I have reiterated the full openness of the Romanian gov't to beefing up political dialogue, expand and develop economic relations and deepen inter-human ties, the cultural, educational collaboration. We stressed in particular the major interest of the Romanian side to develop the economic cooperation with China, energy and infrastructure being just two of the fields with potential," Melescanu said at the joint press conference with the Vice Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission Nur Bekri, Chair of the National Energy Administration of the People's Republic of China, and Energy Minister Toma Petcu.
Melescanu emphasized the importance Romania attaches to an active involvement in the 16+1 format (China - Central and East European countries).
According to Melescanu, our country is interested in participating in the new "Silk Roads" projects promoted by China.
The Foreign Affairs minister said that in 2019 Romania and China will celebrate 70 years since establishing diplomatic relationships and 15 years since launching the Friendship and Cooperation Partnership.
