Foreign Minister Teodor Melescanu on Tuesday welcomed Chairman of the Georgian Parliament Irakli Kobakhidze, who was on an official visit to Romania along with a large parliamentary retinue.
The Romanian Foreign Ministry (MAE) reports that both officials voiced their satisfaction with the excellent level of bilateral relations, mentioning an official visit to Romania by Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili on April 26-27 as a highlight, and the symbolic relevance of the 25th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic ties between the two countries.
"Minister Teodor Melescanu underscored the importance of capitalising on the very good level of the political dialogue to boost trade relations, with emphasis on concrete projects, such as those in the area of connectivity in the Black Sea and Caspian Sea basins," says MAE.
At the same time, Melescanu hailed the organisation in Tbilisi, Georgia's capital city, on November 3 of a session of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Technological Cooperation between Romania and Georgia, expressing his conviction that the discussions held then will generate positive results in the economic and commercial relations between the two countries.
"Teodor Melescanu reiterated Romania's firm and constant support for Georgia's European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations, including ahead the Eastern Partnership summit of November 24, 2017, as well as for Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty."
According to MAE, the Georgian official thanked Romania for support, pointing out Georgia's interest in benefiting from Romania's experience on its European and Euro-Atlantic journey. "He agreed with the assessments of the Romanian side regarding the importance of the activity of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission to boosting cooperation in the economic sphere, and also pointed to the determination to continue the sustained pace of the bilateral contacts in order to develop the Romanian-Georgian cooperation as a whole."
