ForMin Odobescu, Saudi counterpart discuss Israel security in phone call
Romania's Foreign Minister Luminita Odobescu on Wednesday had a telephone conversation with his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud to discuss the security state of play in Israel and the Gaza Strip, as well as the risk of conflict escalation in the region.
According to the Romanian Foreign Ministry (MAE), the need to protect all civilians, the safe evacuation of foreign citizens from the Gaza Strip and the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages were discussed during the call. At the same time, the importance of humanitarian action in support of the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip was emphasised.
The two foreign ministers agreed on the need to intensify diplomatic efforts, including within the EU- Saudi Arabia-League of Arab States three-way initiative, with the aim of achieving comprehensive peace in the Middle East.
The conversation also offered an opportunity to assess prospects for strengthening the bilateral dialogue by capitalising on common opportunities at the political and sectoral level.
