The public policies proposed by the Government are reflected in normative acts or action plans aimed at identifying and providing those working daily in meteorology and hydrology with the necessary financial resources for innovation, transformation, and adaptation of their work, State Advisor with the Prime Minister's Chancellery Mihaela Frasineanu said on Monday at the event dedicated to World Water Day and World Meteorological Day.

"The role of a government is to propose public policies based on the data and information provided by both hydrologists and meteorologists, policies that are reflected either in normative acts, strategies and action plans, and also to identify and make available to those working daily in these areas the financial resources needed for innovation, transformation and adaptation of their work. The Interministerial Committee for Climate Change represents the main inter-institutional coordination platform for combating the effects of climate change and managing the energy transition, as well as the entire Romanian economy. I want to tell you that by setting priorities for 2024, which will continue in 2025, this committee has contributed to the adoption of essential initiatives, such as the development of the 'Green Week' Programme, the implementation of the action plan on environmental education and climate change for the period 2023-2030, the adoption of the new Forestry Code, and why not, the establishment of the National Climate Monitoring Centre, a green, energy-independent building dedicated to climate change research," said Frasineanu.

According to the quoted source, Romania has already adopted the National Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change for the period 2024-2030, a document that strengthens the country's capacity to cope with extreme weather events.

"In August last year, the Government of Romania adopted the National Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change for the period 2024-2030, with a perspective until 2050. This strategy enhances the country's ability to face the challenges generated by climate change, aligning with Romania's international commitments, such as signing the Paris Agreement and being a member of the European Union. One of the main objectives of the strategy is to protect citizens, especially vulnerable communities, from the effects of climate change, such as droughts, floods and extreme weather events (...) All these initiatives demonstrate that change is possible when there is vision (...), and together we can give more importance to this highly relevant issue with far-reaching implications in the medium and long term. Together, we can turn commitments into results," emphasised the Government representative.

The "Apele Romane" National Administration (ANAR) and the National Meteorological Administration (ANM) organised on Monday the event dedicated to World Water Day and World Meteorological Day, under the patronage of the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests (MMAP).
