Europe needs a relaunch of its institutions, policies promoted and to regain the citizens' trust, Gabriela Cretu, the head of the Committee for European Affairs of the Romanian Senate told a conference about Romania's accession to the eurozone.

"Europe is at a crossroads. Although it is not facing quite the disaster some grave-diggers, always reporting that "The Moor has done his duty, the Moor can go," say that it is facing. I am one of those who believe that Europe only needs a relaunch, an objective one, at institutional level and of the policies it promotes, and a subjective one, set to regain the citizens' trust, for as of lately it seems that Europe lost some of the charm that it used to have," stated Senator Gabriela Cretu at the conference "Romania and the accession to eurozone," organized at the Parliament Palace by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the European Institute in Romania.

In her opinion, EU has a problem related to policies and functioning.

"I am one of those who don't believe that, the European Union's first problem is of a structural nature or democratic nature. I rather believe that it is one related to its policies and functioning. It's not about the different speeds, as some like to say, but a problem of direction. But, still, if Europe really has a institutional problem, as a structure, then this problem is called euro and the European Union, to which we have belonged for two years and we are part of the decision makers, so that Europe needs to make a choice and to an answer to a fundamental question: the Union must exist so as to help euro to survive or euro must be reformed, so that it helps the European construction," said Gabriela Cretu.
