The Romanian-Ukrainian pairing of Gabriela Ruse/Marta Kostyuk moved on Monday to the round of 16 of the French Open women's doubles event, after overpowering the duo of Marie Bouzkova (Czech Republic)/Sara Sorribes Tormo (Spain) 6-3, 6-4, told Agerpres.
Ruse and Kostiuk prevailed after a little more than two hours of play against their 7th seeded opponents, securing EUR 43,500 in prize money and 240 WTA doubles points. In the round of 16 they will play the pairing of Leylah Fernandez (Canada)/Erin Routliffe (New Zealand).
The Romanian-Spanish duo of Monica Niculescu/Cristina Bucsa advanced on Sunday to the last-16 of the Roland Garros women's doubles following their 2-6, 6-4, 11-9 victory over Americans Sofia Kenin/Bethanie Mattek-Sands.
Niculescu and Moldovan-born Bucsa will play in the round of 16 the team of Emma Navarro (U.S.)/Diana Shnaider (Russia).
