Romanian tennis player Gabriela Ruse claimed a spot in the women's singles main draw of the US Open Grand Slam tournament which starts on Monday at New York's Flushing Meadows after defeating on Thursday Filipino Alexandra Eala 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the last round of the qualifiers, thus also securing $100,000 in prize money and 40 WTA points.
It took 26-year-old Ruse (WTA's 124th) 2 hours and 8 minutes to upset her 19-year-old opponent (WTA's 148th).
The Romanian managed 5 aces and scored 38 winners, compared to Eala's 17, but she also made 8 double faults and 36 unforced errors, as to 26 hit by the Filipino player.
